Further exhortations to prayer

Before the election I wrote about the importance that we Christians take our role in our government seriously. I trust that on Tuesday we all did just that.

Today, now all that is said and done, I'd like to exhort us not to forget Scripture's own exhortation:

"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1Tim.2:1-4)

Let us (and I do mean me) make this a priority for our daily prayers "first of all". As encouragement to that end I've provided a link to an excellent post regarding how to pray for our next president. If you have the time, I recommend following his links, which provide excellent insight into the heart of what it is to be an African-American Christian in the current climate.

Let our prayer be as fervant and heart felt today as it was before the election.

God calls us to prayer daily, not just when we think it necessary.

I've often thought about that charge to prayer, and you know the thing is, Paul was giving instructions to the church to pray corporately in this way for those in authority. We ought to pray this way as individuals but this should definitely be a corporate prayer.

Thanks Laurie, I'll check out the link you provided.

Jeri,
That is a good distinction to make. I'll try to remember this when we have our Wed. night prayer meetings. But since many folks don't have much control over what gets prayed during corporate worship we shouldn't neglect in in our private prayer. I think it also helps us keep a godly attitude toward our leaders and governments when we're actively praying for them. The truth is, I hadn't really been taking this command serioulsly until recently - I know I haven't because I've rarely prayed in this manner before.
