Have never been a WM fan, but this was interesting. Thanks for posting, it is food for thought.

I didn't make it through the whole thing but I know people that work at Wally-world and are happy, including one who has made it up the ladder to management.

BTW - I love the rip on K-mart, as I drive past the kmart that's a mile from my house and go another 3miles to walmart because I will get home quicker doing that than waiting on the one line to check out at k-mart.

Yeah, Jim, K-mart's a dive. I won't go there at all. Last time I did I came out wanting to pop some anti-depressants.

Wow, that was a good article. Maybe I'll start shopping there again, after I figure out when the least busiest times are.
It's not the place itself that deters me from going, it's the rude groups of people who bring every member of their extended family to wander aimlessly and let their children scream for attention that I can't handle!

Some of the people across the hall from my office specialize in trying to find jobs for people whose disabilities have kept them from working. I printed out the article and gave it to one of them to read. He didn't zero in on the hiring process, oddly enough, rather what struck him was the change in the writer's opinion from application to worker.

One of the things Wal Mart doesn't do much of his hiring people with disabilities, regardless of their job readiness. This has been true in my observations locally over the past four or five years.

Christov,
That I hadn't noticed (though I seldom shop there, so I'm no authority). What I have noticed is their willingness to hire much older people, bonafide seniors, a group I know are virtually shunned in the job market.

Even tho I sympathize with small town business, I've long resented those who vilify WM. I used to write small articles for a quilt magazine and the editor made a nasty comment about WM's 'censoring' certain videos, etc. I reminded this editor that marketing is the agenda and that if Barnes & Noble thought they cd make money on this Q mag, they would stock it. If not, they would not. It is the perogative of the business to sell or not to sell. And it has nothing to do with so-called censorship. I was bemused when this particular editor was replaced some time later.

You're right about Wal-mart hiring older workers.
