It would be just about a hundred years coming.

Yes, slavery of various kinds is alive and well in the world! But for today my wish was to contemplate the curse that comes from a slaveholder mentality. I almost wish I'd waited a day to post this. In retrospect I'd like to have expanded a bit on that point, and the subtlety of it,how even in our small ways we can possess the mind of a slave driver and find ourselves the possessors of hard and cruel hearts.Laurie M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15840896949617719814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441908040982501903.post-29703235978958696882011-01-28T22:40:52.448-08:002011-01-28T22:40:52.448-08:00Rachel,

I plan to post a letter he quoted in full which was a statement on the part of the Society of Friends in reaction to the French and Indian War, which preceded the American Revolution. Fascinating and compelling. If there is one thing the Quakers are to be credited for, it is for taking stands based upon Christlike convictions. John Woolman is the picture of a man who carefully maintained a tender conscience.Laurie M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15840896949617719814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441908040982501903.post-75226762951626144962011-01-28T10:22:28.170-08:002011-01-28T10:22:28.170-08:00This is fascinating! I love stories of one person who makes a difference. :)raehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14659411240699818388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441908040982501903.post-80066234076892799542011-01-28T02:08:19.081-08:002011-01-28T02:08:19.081-08:00But also slavery is far from dead, the sex-industr...But also slavery is far from dead, the sex-industry creates real slaves throughout the world while slavery to Mammon exists in America, GB and many other nations.Kevin Faulknerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15482886706239506749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441908040982501903.post-20962462170925972702011-01-28T02:04:50.745-08:002011-01-28T02:04:50.745-08:00I wonder if Woolman was familiar with Browne's...I wonder if Woolman was familiar with Browne's 1670's 'prophecy', probably not, but at least he was active about it, whereas Browne only wrote-

When Africa shall no longer sell out their Blacks,
To be slaves and drudges to the American tracts.Kevin Faulknerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15482886706239506749noreply@blogger.com
