Walking in Silence

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When sorrow walked with me.

I'm so glad that this simple little poem has blessed and ministered to someone else as it has to me. I heard this in a sermon by Mack Tomlinson on Sanctification. He was talking about how it is so often through the times of trial we experience the nearness of God. I know there are many roads He has taken me down that I would never have chosen myself... and so I thank Him for His sovereignty! And I thank Him because for every mile I have walked with Sorrow, the Lord has granted me so much more the Joy of His presence; and for every step I have taken in weakness, He has given me all the more an appreciation for His strength that carries me.

I pray that we all will experience the Joy of His presence and His strength persevering us in the perfect trials He has for each of us, for our good and His glory. Amen.

It seems to me that Sorrow had to teach several things two or three times before I got it! Each time I walked with Sorrow,however, I knew His Presence much more intimately!
